Clinical Elective Program

The University of Tokyo Faculty of Medicine offers clinical electives for medical students from our affiliated universities and for a limited number of medical students from unaffiliated universities. All international clinical elective students must be in their final year of study in medical school during their elective at UTokyo.

Please note that our office is not responsible for arranging clinical training or research opportunities for international graduate students or health professionals.

Students from affiliated universities: To begin the application process, please ask the elective coordinator at your university to inform us when you have been nominated for study at UTokyo.

Students from unaffiliated universities: Students from unaffiliated universities who are interested in a clinical elective should carefully review the application instructions. The application portal will open on 3 June 2024 for rotations starting during the period from 20 January through 24 March 2025.

Important information

• A complete immunization record must be submitted at least sixty days before the start of a clinical rotation.
• Our office is unable to serve as, or find, a guarantor on visa applications for visiting students.
