Clinical Elective Program

The University of Tokyo Faculty of Medicine offers clinical electives for medical students from our affiliated universities and for a limited number of medical students from unaffiliated universities. All international clinical elective students must be in their final year of study in medical school during their elective at UTokyo .

Please note that our office is not responsible for arranging clinical training or research opportunities for international graduate students or health professionals.

Students from affiliated universities: To begin the application process, please ask the elective coordinator at your university to inform us when you have been nominated for study at UTokyo.

Students from unaffiliated universities:  Students from unaffiliated universities who are interested in a clinical elective should carefully review the application instructions. The application portal for electives beginning in July through September 2025 will open on 2 December 2024.

Important information

• A complete immunization record must be submitted at least sixty days before the start of a clinical rotation.
• Our office is unable to serve as, or find, a guarantor on visa applications for visiting students.
